The Shamanic Journey
Shamans journey to other worlds in a different state of consciousness from the one we experience every day. This is often called a Shamanic state of consciousness where the Shaman is almost in a trance-like state.
A Shamanic journey is always undertaken for a specific purpose or intention or to resolve an issue. There are three worlds for the Shamanic journey, the Lower World (sometimes called the Underworld), Middle World and the Upper World.
The Middle World is our starting point and where we physically live and we experience this material world with our senses. There is a more subtle side to this world and we journey here to deal with present issues and meet our Guardian Animal.
The Shamanic journey to the Lower World takes us to the realm where we are most likely to meet our ancestors and retrieve lost knowledge, regain our power when we feel lost or physically depleted, and for personal healing. We also meet our Power Animal.
The Upper World is more ethereal and we can access knowledge, information and our Spiritual Guide and Mentor, who can help us with the future and manifest our ideas into reality. It is here we can get a clearer picture of where we are going and obtain spiritual help and guidance.
There are many ways of beginning your Shamanic Journey; some people use drumming, a rattle, music, singing and dancing, to get into the altered state of consciousness. When you first journey to the three worlds you find your spirit guides/power animals who help you on your journey.
